Alpine herbs for the Restaurant Bären

Alpine herbs and flowers are the treasure chest of our local environment and nature

By using them, we can significantly increase our well-being and experience new sensory experiences. Let us take you on a journey into the world of alpine herbs and flowers, and experience the fascination of the Jungfrau Region, one of the most beautiful regions on earth.

In our Alpine Herb Hotel in Wengen, we discovered the world of herbs, flowers, berries, fruits, and mushrooms from our region for ourselves many years ago. Your hosts, Therese and Willy Brunner have acquired a rich knowledge over the years about the different plant species, their harvest, the processing, and possible uses. Every spring, summer, and autumn we harvest wild herbs from the meadows and alpine mats, garden herbs from our alpine herb garden and various mushrooms on the Wengernalp or Spätenenalp.

Stinging Nettle, Dandelion & Co

These healthy, delicious, and vitamin-rich foods and wild plants refine and complement our cuisine, which you are enjoying every day with us at the Alpine Herb Hotel. You may know stinging nettle, dandelion and wild garlic as “weeds” but they taste good and are very healthy.

Beeries and mushrooms

On the following pages we invite you to accompany us on excursions through the nature. Every season has something to offer, from leaves in spring to berries and mushrooms in autumn. Even if the winter harvest is sparse, we can rely on the supplies from the months of high yield. We have compiled a selection of common native wild plants and herbs, which we present with photos, information, and delicious recipes.

Embark on a discovery trip to experience the beauties of our nature and the hidden diversity of the alpine flora.
